Marcelo Grateful To The Best

Is Cristiano Ronaldo the best player in the world? This is a decision for others, perhaps without as much bias to decide, but I wouldn't be arguing against this with Marcelo on a similar wavelength!
Thanks to the opener from Ronaldo, just ahead of the hour, Real took a step into the last eight of the Champions League. A late goal from Jese leaves us two-up against Roma and very much in the driving seat with Marcelo giving a glowing endorsement of his teammate.
Marcelo, when speaking to Uefa.com, was confident (as he usually is) Ronaldo was going to do what he did when he set him up for the opening goal but it's not just his goals that make him such a special player for him.
'Cristiano is a fantastic player, maybe the best. For me it is a great honour to play with him. You just have to pass him the ball and he does the rest. The whole team are very happy with him. It's not only his goals, he also works very hard for the team.'
The full back went onto add the two-nil win at the Stadio Olimpico was 'a massive result' yet he's fully aware, as much as we'll now be strong favourites to finish off the job at the Bernabeu, it's not a done deal just yet and nothing should be taken for granted ahead of the return leg on 8th March.
Nevertheless he praised the all-round team performance.
He finished by giving praise the influence Zinedine Zidane has had at the club since becoming Head Coach too. The Real legend has given the Brazilian international, and the rest of the team, freedom to express themselves and attack with that almost certain to be what we'll do in the second leg too! We'll not be easing off and sitting on what we've got.
'It was a great performance from us and the whole team are in good shape and we're very happy. Every game is different and of course it is a characteristic of ours to attack as much as we can, if the space is there. The coach gives us the liberty to play as we like and this is very important. Yes, I think we will (attack).'
