Paul Merson sends message to Man United fans about re-signing Cristiano Ronaldo

Writing in his Daily Star column about Ronaldo’s possible return to Manchester United in the summer, Merson poured cold water on talk of the Portugal international re-signing for Manchester United. “One thing jumps out at you when you watch the Champions League. Cristiano Ronaldo is never coming back to the Premier League. He’s 32 and that ship has sailed. I still can’t warm to him, though. “I find him quite selfish. If he’s not scored, he’s not interested. When one of his team-mates scores, he rarely rushes to congratulate them. I’m not surprised some Real fans whistle him. “I’ve watched Ronaldo a lot lately and at times he’s not brought much to the party. Then he scores a hat-trick in a Champions League semi-final, so you have to hand it to him.” Paul Merson has rubbished talk of Manchester United re-signing Cristiano Ronaldo at the end of the season. The Portugal captain moved to Real Madrid from Manchester United in an £80m deal under Sir Alex Ferguson in the 2009 summer transfer window. Ronaldo won three Premier League titles, the Champions League trophy, three League Cups and two FA Cups during his spell at Old Trafford. The 32-year-old has scored an incredible 399 goals in 389 appearances in all competition for los Blancos during his eight-year stay in the Spanish capital. Ronaldo has been linked with a return to Manchester United at various points throughout his Real Madrid career but a transfer has failed to materialist.
