Portugal head coach Fernando Santos wants to see more from Cristiano Ronaldo at Euro 2016, after his brace against Hungary saw them qualify for the last 16.
The Real Madrid forward struggled in Portugal’s two opening games with Iceland and Austria, but fired in two goals against Hungary yesterday to secure third spot in the group and a path to the knockout stage.
By hitting the back of the net yesterday, Ronaldo – who won his third Champions League winners’ medal last month – became the first-ever player to score in four consecutive European Championships, beating Zlatan Ibrahimovic to the record.
It looked like he’d finally rediscovered his form on Wednesday afternoon, but Santos is urging the 31-year-old forward to score more goals and guide his country to the final this summer.
